References to massage have been found in Chinese medical texts, dating back more than 4,000 years.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<!--more-->\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Some of the benefits of massage therapy<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Pain relief and management are at the center of what massage therapists can offer to clients.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Nearly 50 million American adults have significant chronic pain or severe pain, according to a new study prepared by National Institutes of Health\u2019s National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health<\/p><cite>NCCIH<\/cite><\/blockquote>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>These can include back, shoulder and neck pain, headaches, arthritis and fibromyalgia. While levels of pain are obviously subjective, a person\u2019s individual reality can be improved through therapies like massage.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-rounded-corner\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"840\" height=\"420\" src=\"https:\/\/woodtherapy.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/post-content-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3867\" srcset=\"https:\/\/woodtherapy.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/post-content-1.jpg 840w, https:\/\/woodtherapy.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/post-content-1-300x150.jpg 300w, https:\/\/woodtherapy.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/post-content-1-768x384.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 840px) 100vw, 840px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Pain that comes from other sources can also benefit from massage:<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Post-operative \/ acute disease or condition related pain \u2014 in fact, pain related to the management of cancer, including lymphatic drainage pain that is very prevalent for breast cancer patients, can be relieved with massage therapy.<\/li><li>Maternal and newborn care \u2014 The stress that a mother\u2019s body endures before and during delivery of a baby can be alleviated through massage.<\/li><li>Rehabilitation from injury \u2014 Ask any world class athlete and they\u2019ll tell you that they\u2019ve benefited from massage therapy at some point in their career! Beyond athletes, cardiac and joint replacement patients experience pain that can be helped. Even the pain from repetitive stress injuries that are work related, such as carpal tunnel syndrome, can be improved significantly.<\/li><li>Mental health \u2014 Stress and anxiety are just two examples of mental health issues that can be relieved with massage therapy.<\/li><\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>There are no limits to the benefits of massage therapy when it comes to pain management and relief.
